This court takes the request at the clerk's window, by mail or through the court's online portal. Deadline: on or before the appearance or plea-due date on the citation (JP4 and JP5: mailed requests by certified mail, return receipt, postmarked by that date; JP6: after the appearance date the judge must approve).

- Plea of no contest (JP5 also accepts guilty) with waiver of jury trial
- Copy of a valid Texas driver license or permit (JP1 asks for a color copy; military members without a Texas license file a notarized military status affidavit at JP4)
- Proof of liability insurance listing you as a driver and valid on the request date
- Payment of the state costs and administrative fee (money order or cashier's check; cash in person; JP1, JP2 and JP3 take cards with a fee; no personal checks)
- JP4: a self-addressed stamped envelope when mailing
Court costs $144 (JP1, JP3, JP4 and JP6 each state $144, or $169 for a school-zone violation; JP2 and JP5 say call the court; the DPS driving record is $12 online or $10 by mail; JP6 adds a $200 fine if the requirements are not met by the due date).
You have 90 days to finish the course and turn in the court copy of your certificate, your Type 3A driving record and the notarized affidavit, at the clerk's window or through the court's online portal. The affidavit must be notarized, or signed in front of the clerk where the court allows it.
Procedure is precinct-specific. Notarization: JP3 requires it when you file online or by mail; JP4 requires a notarized affidavit at completion; JP1 and JP6 use unsworn declarations; JP2 and JP5 pages say nothing about a notary. JP4 and JP6 name the Type 3A record; the other precincts say a certified DPS driving record. Proof of completion is the court copy of the TDLR certificate plus the record, within 90 days of the court's approval, presented to the court in person or e-filed; JP1 has taken no paper criminal filings since December 1, 2025.
