Justice of the Peace courts (county) Full procedureThis court takes the request at the clerk's window or by mail. Deadline: plea of guilty or no contest and all documents to the court on or before the appearance date on the citation; mailed requests postmarked by that date.
- Signed DSC affidavit or Plea, Affidavit and Request form (per precinct), notarized when mailed, with plea of no contest or guilty and jury waiver
- Copy of a valid Texas non-commercial driver license or permit (or proof of active duty military or dependent status)
- Valid proof of insurance with your name on the policy
- Court costs plus the $10 non-refundable DSC reimbursement fee (JP1, JP3 and JP4 state the total as $146)
Court costs $136 plus a $10 reimbursement fee (JP1, JP3 and JP4 state a $146 total that includes court costs and the $10 fee; the county page and JP2 say call the precinct; the DPS driving record is $10 more).
You have 90 days to finish the course and turn in the court copy of your certificate, your Type 3A driving record and the notarized affidavit, at the clerk's window or by mail. The affidavit must be notarized, or signed in front of the clerk where the court allows it.
County-wide rule: request in person or by mail with a signed affidavit, notarized when mailing; in person JP1 swears it before a deputy clerk. Exceptions: JP4's form is an unsworn declaration with no notary block; JP5 publishes no DSC page, call (512) 854-9049. JP1 counts the 90 days from the date the affidavit is notarized. Every precinct requires a Type 3A DPS record (JP1 accepts version 3 or 3A) plus the signed court copy of the certificate; JP1 also accepts them by email at jp1@traviscountytx.gov. No online DSC request exists; the online payment sites are for case payments only. Juveniles must appear in court first.
