You must take the DETS course if you are under 18 and have never held a driver license from any state, country or jurisdiction. It is the first step toward your Florida learner license (Class E learner’s permit).
You do not need this course if you already held a Florida learner license before August 1, 2025, if you are transferring a valid out-of-state license, or if you are 18 or older (the 4-hour TLSAE course applies instead).
