Add Your Convictions

Convictions from the last 12 months (the month the court convicted you, not the ticket date)

Disclaimer: This calculator gives an estimate for education, not legal advice. Points come from convictions reported by the court, not from tickets, and they expire 12 months after the conviction date. A course taken because a court required it, or as part of a plea agreement, does not remove points. Check your official record with the Nevada DMV.

How Demerit Points Work in Nevada

When a Nevada court convicts you of a moving violation it notifies the DMV, which adds the points for that offense to your driving record. Points expire 12 months after the conviction date, although the conviction itself stays on your record. The DMV acts on your 12-month total:

Points in 12 monthsWhat happens
0 to 2Good standing. Not yet eligible to have points removed by a course.
3 to 11The DMV mails you a notice at 3 points. You can have 3 points cancelled by completing a DMV-licensed traffic safety course voluntarily, once every 12 months.
12 or moreAutomatic 6-month license suspension. Serious offenses such as DUI sit outside the point system and bring immediate suspension or revocation.

Nevada Violations and Their Point Values

How to Remove Points From Your Record

With 3 to 11 active points you can complete a Nevada DMV-licensed traffic safety course and the DMV cancels 3 points. The course must be taken voluntarily, once every 12 months; a course a court required does not count. The DMV sets the length by your record: 5 hours if you have 2 or fewer convictions in the last 12 months, 8 hours if you have 3 or more. Traffic Safety Institute offers the 5-hour course online (license TSS000053264), and your completion is reported to the DMV.
