One page with your link and a QR code: what the clinic is, how long it takes, and what to bring to court.

  • A certificate within hours

Your client prints the certificate of completion within a few hours of passing, and we report the completion electronically to the Virginia DMV within 24 hours.

  • No cost to your firm

There is no cost to your firm. Your client pays for the course ($54.99) the way any student does.

About two minutes. Your link and hand-out are ready as soon as you finish.

Why clients complete the clinic before court

Virginia traffic and reckless driving defense attorneys routinely have clients complete a driver improvement clinic before the court date, so the certificate is in hand when the case is called. Whether it helps, and how much, is the court's decision in each case; we make no promise about outcomes. What we can promise is that the clinic is Licensed by DMV (License 5347), that the certificate is issued within a few hours of your client passing, and that the completion reaches the DMV electronically within 24 hours, so there is no gap between finishing the course and having proof of it.

The same course serves clients in every situation the Virginia DMV recognizes: a court order, a DMV requirement, the voluntary +5 safe driving points, or an insurance discount. Your client picks the reason when they register.

How it works for your firm

  • 1

    Sign up your firm

Two minutes, on this page. We give your firm a short code made from its name and a link in the form of the course sign-up address with your code attached, on screen and by email.

  • 2

    Print the hand-out

Open your hand-out and print it, or email the link. The hand-out carries your link as text and as a QR code, so a client can enroll from their phone in the hallway.

  • 3

    Your client enrolls and finishes

Eight hours online, on any device, in as many sittings as they like. A short quiz after each lesson and a 50-question final at 80%. Retakes on the final are included, and if they do not pass they get their money back.

  • 4

The certificate is ready for court

Your client prints the certificate of completion within a few hours and can order a mailed copy. The DMV receives the completion electronically within 24 hours. Enrollments through your link are counted to your firm.

What your client needs to register. Their Virginia driver's license number, date of birth and the name exactly as it appears on the license (the DMV matches the completion to the driving record with those), an email address, and a card for the course fee, which is paid when they register.

Common questions

Does the firm or the client pay anything extra?

No. There is no cost to your firm, and we do not pay referral fees. Your client pays for the course the way any student does, when they register: no discount code, no mark-up.

How do I know a client enrolled?

Enrollments through your link are attributed to your firm, and we report the count to you on request. We do not share a client's course progress or exam results with the firm; the client brings the certificate to court.

How fast can a client get the certificate?

The course is 8 hours of material. A client can finish in one day or spread it over weeks. The certificate is available to print within a few hours of passing the final, and the completion is reported to the Virginia DMV electronically within 24 hours.

Is the clinic accepted for a court order or a DMV requirement?

Traffic Safety Institute is a Virginia driver improvement clinic, Licensed by DMV (License 5347). Completions are reported to the DMV electronically. Whether a particular court considers a voluntary completion in a pending case is that court's decision.

Can clients with a commercial license take the online clinic?

Virginia requires commercial license holders to take the clinic in a classroom. The online clinic is for non-commercial license holders.

Please note: this guide describes Virginia DMV procedures and fees as published at dmv.virginia.gov in September 2026, in general terms. It is not legal advice. Fees, forms and the rules for demerit and safe driving points are set by the DMV and the Code of Virginia (Title 46.2), and the DMV is the authority on your own record. Traffic Safety Institute is a driver improvement clinic, Licensed by DMV (License 5347); it does not issue driving records.
