Account & Purchases
Q: Do I need an account to use the app?
A: No. You can use practice quizzes and study features without an account. An account is only required for leaderboard, challenges, and social features.
Q: How do I restore my purchase?
A: Open the app → Settings → Tap “Restore Purchases.” Your purchase is linked to your Apple ID and will restore automatically.
Q: How does the 3-day free trial work?
A: New Weekly Premium subscribers get the first 3 days free. The trial converts to a paid weekly subscription ($7.99/week) automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours
before it ends. Cancel any time in iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
Q: How do I cancel my subscription?
A: Subscriptions are managed through your Apple account:
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Tap your name at the top
- Tap “Subscriptions”
- Select your Traffic Safety Institute app
- Tap “Cancel Subscription”

Refunds & Billing
Q: Can I get a refund?
A: All purchases are processed through Apple. To request a refund:
- Go to reportaproblem.apple.com
- Sign in with your Apple ID
- Find your Traffic Safety Institute app
- Select “Request a Refund”
Refunds are subject to Apple’s refund policy. We cannot process refunds directly.
Q: Does this app have a Pass Guarantee?
A: Yes. If you fail your DMV/DHSMV permit test on the first attempt, you may be eligible for a refund of your most recent payment. Eligibility requires completing the
diagnostic test, at least 5 full practice tests in the app (3 of them at 80% or higher), and using the app on at least 7 distinct calendar days. Subscription buyers must claim within 30 days of failure; lifetime buyers within 60 days.
Email proof of failure to support@trafficsafetyinstitute.com. Approved refunds are processed via Apple’s App Store refund process.
Q: Why was I charged twice?
A: Check your Apple subscriptions to ensure you didn’t accidentally subscribe to both monthly and annual plans. Contact Apple Support if you see duplicate charges.
Study Features
Q: Are these real DMV questions?
A: Our questions are based on the official state driver handbook (California Driver Handbook for CA, Florida Driver License Handbook for FL) and reflect the style and content of
actual permit test questions. The real test may include questions not in our app.
Q: How many questions do I need to practice?
A: We recommend answering all available questions at least once and achieving 90% or higher accuracy before taking the real test. Our CA app includes 500+ questions and
our FL app includes 600+.
Q: What does “Ready to Test” mean?
A: The readiness indicator calculates your preparedness based on overall accuracy, questions seen, and weakest category performance. 85% or higher readiness means you’re likely
ready for the real test.
Q: How does the AI Tutor work?
A: The Scout AI Tutor (Premium feature) provides personalized explanations for any question. Tap “Ask Scout” while studying to get an instant explanation tailored to the question and
your answer.
Technical Issues
Q: The app won’t open or keeps crashing.
A: Try these steps:
- Force close the app and reopen
- Restart your iPhone
- Update to the latest iOS version
- Delete and reinstall the app (your progress may be lost unless you have an account)
If issues persist, contact support with your device model and iOS version.
Q: My progress disappeared.
A: Progress is stored locally unless you have an account. If you deleted and reinstalled the app without an account, your progress cannot be recovered. Create an account to sync progress
to the cloud.
Q: The leaderboard isn’t updating.
A: Leaderboard rankings update every 5 minutes. Pull down to refresh manually. Ensure you have an active internet connection.
Q: I’m not receiving notifications.
A: Check your notification settings:
- iOS Settings → your Traffic Safety Institute app → Notifications
- Ensure “Allow Notifications” is ON
- Also check in-app Settings → Notifications
Account Management
Q: How do I change my username?
A: Tap your profile → Edit Profile → Change username. Note: Usernames must be unique and appropriate.
Q: How do I delete my account?
A: Email support@trafficsafetyinstitute.com with “Delete Account” in the subject line. Include your username and email. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
Q: Can I use the same account on multiple devices?
A: Yes, if you sign in with the same Apple ID. Your progress syncs automatically across devices.
Permit Test Preparation
Q: When should I take the real permit test?
A: We recommend:
- 85% or higher readiness score
- 90% or higher accuracy on practice tests
- Consistent passing scores on full-length exams (42/46 or higher for CA, 45/50 or higher for FL)
- Completed all lessons in Learn mode
Q: What should I bring to the DMV/DHSMV?
A: Check your state’s official site for current requirements. Typically:
- Proof of identity (birth certificate, passport)
- Social Security number
- Proof of state residency
- Parent/guardian signature if under 18
Q: Does this app work for both teen permits and adult licenses?
A: Yes. The same knowledge test is used for learner’s permits and first-time adult licenses in both California and Florida.
