Prat City LLC DBA Traffic Safety Institute (“TSI”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the CA DMV Permit Prep mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide Directly
- Account Information (optional, required only for leaderboard/social features): Username, email address (via Apple Sign-In)
- Study Progress: Questions answered, quiz scores, practice test results, lessons completed, study streaks
- Settings: Sound preferences, haptic feedback preferences, notification preferences
Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Data: App features used, time spent studying, question performance
- Device Information: Device type, iOS version, app version
- Analytics Data: Crash reports, performance metrics (via Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics)
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your real name, phone number, address, or driver’s license information
- We do not collect precise geolocation data
- We do not access your contacts, photos, or other device content
- We do not use third-party advertising or tracking for ads
How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide and improve the App’s study features
- Track your learning progress and identify weak areas
- Calculate your readiness for the DMV test
- Enable leaderboard and social features (when you opt in)
- Provide AI-powered tutoring (Premium feature, uses Claude API by Anthropic)
- Analyze app performance and fix crashes
- Send notifications about study reminders and achievements (with your permission)
Data Storage
Your study progress is stored both locally on your device and in the cloud:
Local Storage
All your study data is stored on your device using:
- UserDefaults for settings and preferences
- Core Data for question performance history and progress tracking
This data remains on your device and is backed up via iCloud if you have device backup enabled.
Cloud Storage
When you create an account for leaderboard and social features, we also sync your data to secure cloud servers (Firebase Firestore):
- User profile (username, level, points, streak)
- Question performance data
- Leaderboard rankings
- Challenge history with other users
You can use the App’s core study features without creating an account. An account is only required for leaderboard, challenges, and social features.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
Firebase (Google)
- Firebase Analytics: Usage statistics and app performance
- Firebase Crashlytics: Error reporting and stability monitoring
- Firebase Authentication: Secure sign-in with Apple
- Firebase Firestore: Cloud database for leaderboard and user data

- Your questions and AI conversations are sent to Anthropic’s servers
- Rate limited to 50 questions per day per Premium user
Data Sharing
We do NOT sell your personal information to third parties.
We may share information:
- With your consent: When you choose to share achievements on social media
- Service providers: Firebase, Apple, Anthropic (as described above) to operate the App
- Legal requirements: If required by law or to protect our legal rights
- Business transfers: If TSI is acquired or merged, user data may be transferred
Your California Privacy Rights
Under California Civil Code Section 1798.83, California residents may request information about personal information shared with third parties for marketing purposes. We do not share personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
CCPA Rights
California residents have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Opt-out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell data)

Data Retention
- Local data: Remains on your device until you delete the App
- Account data: Retained while your account is active
- Deleted accounts: Data deleted within 30 days of account deletion request
- Analytics data: Aggregated and anonymized, retained indefinitely
Children’s Privacy
The App is intended for users 15 years and older preparing for their learner’s permit. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.
Parents or guardians who believe we have collected information from a child under 13 should contact us at support@trafficsafetyinstitute.com.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures:
- HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
- Secure authentication via Apple Sign-In
- Firebase security rules to protect user data
- No storage of payment information (handled by Apple)
However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Choices
You can control your information by:
- Deleting the App: Removes all local data from your device
- Account deletion: Email support@trafficsafetyinstitute.com to delete your account
- Push notifications: Disable in iOS Settings or in-app settings
- Analytics: Cannot be disabled individually, but covered by general app usage
International Users
The App is designed for California DMV test preparation. Data is stored on servers in the United States. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of information to the U.S.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of changes by:
- Posting the new policy in the App
- Updating the “Last Updated” date
- Sending a push notification for material changes
Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
